![]() Owners are delighted to show guests around some of the private areas of the historic building. Of particular interest are the apartments used by the Grand Duke of Tuscany in the 1700's, the tiny 1800's theatre seating 52 people, and recently restored to its former glory, the ancient cantinas sculpted out of the bedrock, where the wine was made and stored, and the courtyards and formal gardens. You may also have a tasting of the La Grancia organic products including olive oil, wines, and vin santo.

When you rent an apartment, you have the use of the extensive gardens and the swimming pool with views over the valley. In 1295, Simone dei Cacciaconti, Lord of Montisi, willed his estate in Montisi to the Hospital of St. Maria della Scala in Siena. The hospital built a small fortress with a high tower on the western boundary of the village. It was used as a grancia, a granary for the storage of the produce grown on the property. In 1775, Pietro Leopoldo, Grand Duke of Tuscany, issued an order to sell the estate of the hospital, including the Grancia of Montisi. It was purchased by Jacopo Mannucci Benincasa in 1778 and has remained in the family to this day. For centuries the estate has produced the finest wine and extra virgin olive oil using organic methods. This tradition is continued today and it is possible to purchase our products during your stay. We welcome guests throughout the year to our beautiful vacation apartments in Tuscany. |
